Final two home games of season this weekend

The Cal State Northridge women’s soccer team will play its final regular season games this weekend. The Matadors will play UC Santa Barabara on Friday and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Sunday. Sunday’s game will be a celebration day for the seven seniors who will be playing their final intercollegiate regular season game. Both games will be played at Matador Soccer Field with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The Matadors are coming off a weekend in which they went unbeaten. CSUN defeated Cal State Bakersfield 3-2 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference match, then played to a scoreless draw against conference opponent UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Susie Mischenko leads the Matadors in goals scored (5) and total points (10). Freshman forward Salma Tarik has three goals and two assists, while senior forward Kristy Krohn has two goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Kellie Drenner has 42 saves for the season and a 2.21 goals against average, while freshman Ivette Esqueda has 17 saves and a goals against average of 1.59.

The Gauchos of Santa Barbara own a 9-3 all-time record between the two teams and have beaten the Matadors in six straight games. The last time the Matadors beat the Gauchos was Oct. 14, 2001, with a 2-0 win in Northridge.

Freshman Kailyn Kugler leads the team in goals (6) and total points (16), while senior Katrina Wright’s leads the team in assists with four. Senior goalkeeper Katie Wright has started 17 games in goal while posting a 0.89 goals against average and a .792 save percentage.

Cal Poly, the first place team in the conference, owns a 4-1-1 all-time record against Northridge and beat the Matadors 3-1 in their last meeting on Oct. 22 of last year.

Sharon Day leads the Mustangs in goals (3) and points (6). Cal Poly boasts a versatile and deep attack, which has seen nine different players score goals this season.

Goalkeeper Alli Tramel has started 15 games for the Mustangs, putting up a 1.07 goals against average and a .793 save percentage.

Senior Day will be celebrated before Sunday’s match against Cal Poly. The seven seniors who will be honored are Evy Cedillo, Rachel Gillis, Rilesha Haynie, Shanna Hudson, Kristy Krohn, Susie Mischenko and Beth Wagenhoffer.
