Anti-war protestors rally in Hollywood

Thousands of protesters gathered at Bob Hope Square on the corner of Hollywood and Vine Saturday, calling for an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Protesters held signs saying “Impeach Bush,” “U.S. Out of Iraq!” and “No More War.”

The march was organized by the Los Angeles branch of Act Now to Stop War and End Racism. The police said 5,000 to 6,000 people attended.

The march was designed to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, in which more than 3,200 U.S. casualties have been confirmed by the Department of Defense.

“We just need to pull our troops out. It seems this war can’t be won,” said Tyrone Rocha, a 21-year-old marcher.

The protest was one of many that took place across the country last weekend, including protests in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Actor and activist Martin Sheen carried flag-draped coffins.

Police were on scene to escort the marchers to the rally’s end at Hollywood and Highland.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters was on hand at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and encouraged protestors.

“Your presence here is sending a strong message to Washington, D.C. to bring our soldiers home,” she told the crowd.
