At Monday’s Associated Students finance committee meeting, members recommended allocations for the Senate to deliberate on at their next meeting on March 27.

The committee recommended $901 to Alejandro Salinas-Albrednt for his student film project. The $901 recommendation came after much deliberation about staying consistent among similar types of requests.

Director of Finance Adam Haverstock noted that in previous weeks the committee had funded similar projects with $900, so they should try and stay close to that amount in the name of fairness.

“Creativity is limited by the amount of money one has,” said Assistant Director of Finance Josh Hansen, advocating for CTVA students.

The $901 allocation came as reconsideration from the original amount of $850.

Another $900 was recommended to a similar request made by Margarita Perez, a CTVA student who is working on a student film project.

Andrea Ball, another CTVA student, was recommended an allocation of $312 to help in the funding of her senior film project, which is one of five selected this semester to be made by the department. Ball only requested $312.

The CSUN Geology Club was recommended $1,000, the total amount they requested, to attend the Hawaiian Volcano Spring Fling.

“Of course, everyone wants to go to Hawaii for spring break, but we will be spending more time by the lava rather than the beach,” said a geology club representative at the meeting.

The newly chartered CSUN Chess Club was recommended to receive $219 for their CSUN Chess Championship. They had requested $454.

The committee recommended that Ivan Villanueva from the communication studies department receive $725 for the Global Peace and Justice: Student Engagement and Community Involvement event, which will take place on campus.

The event will help raise awareness of issues that are of students’ central concern. It will be free for all students to attend.

CSUN Hillel and United Campus Ministries may potentially receive $1,700 for their trip to New Orleans to be a part of Alternative Spring Break II. The trip will consist of 24 students going to New Orleans for five days to help rebuild the city in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Other standard allocations of $400 per person from the Academically Related Reserve Account for travel were recommended to Gina Aparicio of the art department for travel expenses to the Solo Mujeres Art Exhibit in San Francisco; and Jessica Dooley of the biology department for travel costs to a meeting.

The Society of Professional Journalists was recommended a total of $1,200 for three students to attend the National Journalism Conference in Hawaii, and CSUN Guitar was recommended $800 for two people to attend the Appalachian Guitar Festival.
