Men’s soccer: Gomez out for good. This time for reals

Matador Moy Gomez, who was the men’s soccer leading scorer before suffering a torn ACL in a home game against UC Riverside Oct. 5, will have season-ending surgery. He finishes the season with four goals.

Gomez incredibly tried to play through the injury. With the doctor’s blessing and Davila’s permission, Gomez appeared in two games wearing a protective leg brace. He, however, re-injured the knee Wednesday against UC Santa Barbara and was helped off the field. He knew his season was over then.

I spoke to him and he was in good spirits. He still has a full season ahead of him. Coach Davila said Gomez brings in more than just a great scorer to his line, he brings in energy and personality, one strong to make his teammates better.

The Matadors will have to wait till the 2009 season to count with Gomez again. Forward Camilo Rojas has now taken over as CSUN’s leading scorer and Northridge is in position to qualify for the Big West Conference Tournament. They have two games left. If they win out, they’re in.
