‘CSUN students deserve a better tram system’
BY Ashley Gordon / Staff Reporter

This is just not something we need. First of all, it’s faster to walk from the dorms to campus, which takes 10-20 minutes, depending on speed and distance, instead of waiting for the tram, which takes up to 30 minutes. Second, it is a waste of money to do this. We can save that money to help CSUN pay its debt due to the parking construction and ridiculous fees of all these buildings we are having. They should also save it for the new gym they are building, which is also not necessary.

Student housing is beyond in need of a better tram system. There are a couple students I know that don’t live in the dorms, but it would be beneficial to them as well since they park in the University Park Apartments parking lot to avoid traffic, and catch the trams last stop to take them to campus. Over the year, the tram has become completely unreliable. Its random hours/days it’s not in service…using two trams early in the morning compared to the middle of the day when most students have class. Of course the state budget is a problem, but CSUN needs to be wiser about how they are spending the thousands of dollars we pay for school. Personally, I think the $5,000 spent on the Games Room definitely could have gone to something much better like this.

First of all, the tram doesn’t even go to the other side of campus, it stops midway. Second, it’s another excuse for people not to walk and use the exercise. Reminds me of people who take the elevator to the second floor when they are perfectly capable of using the stairs. Either the tram needs to be more efficient, or it should be scrapped entirely.

‘Advancements in feminism have taken a step back’
by Casey Rowley / Staff Reporter

I thought a big tenet of feminism was a woman being able to express her own sexuality without being labeled. I understand your concern with media’s portrayal of women as sex object-point taken. But seriously, did you ever open your mind to the possibility that a girl should be able to dress however she wants to without being judged by you? The fact that you are saying: Teen girl dresses ultra sexy, therefore she must be something non-feminist is the real problem.

Casey, You hit the nail on the head. Great point. I have two teenage boys that adore this sport, and a 13-year-old daughter also. There are so many opportunities in MX to help them grow into quality adults, from learning the benefit of hard work, supporting their racing friends and working to help each other, to winning and losing gracefully. We spend quality family time doing MX. If I had been at that event and seen those girls dancing on the tables I would think I took a wrong turn and ended up in the strip club! I’m trying to teach my boys to value and respect women as the beautiful creatures they are and not look at them as an object. Great article!

The sport is all about the image, and the trophy girls certainly don’t dress like that for free, but it does leave little to the imagination, so I can see both sides.
