With so many sports bars around it can be difficult to decide what establishment to choose, but the ESPN Zone in downtown Los Angeles is a new place to go that offers a unique experience.
ESPN Zone opened its doors to the public in November of last year.’ The new location is on the corner of South Figueroa Street, right across from the Staples Center.
The restaurant/bar was built in L.A. Live, a part of the restoration project in downtown L.A.’ The opening of’ ESPN Zone has brought a lot more people to the area.
One of the best qualities about ESPN Zone is the atmosphere in which you can eat, drink alcohol and watch sports.’ To say that this place has high-defintion TVs is an understatement.’ TVs are scattered all around the restaurant, including personal screens at certain booths.
One of the best times to go and get the full ESPN experience is during a Lakers game. In the interest of saving money, a lot of fans have been foregoing the Lakers’ games completely in favor of a night at the ESPN Zone, where they can watch the game on huge screens while eating and drinking with other sports enthusiasts.
The TVs in ESPN Zone are what helps to make this restaurant a fun place to go, but the restaurant is still new and the owners are still working out some kinks.’ The main screen in the middle of the restaurant is actually made up of three 103-inch high-def TVs turned sideways and put together.’ The result is an enormous screen with two big lines going down the middle and at times, this makes it difficult to clearly view your favorite team.
‘I love coming to this place to watch sports, but the TV situation could use some improvements,’ said restaurant patron Michael San Juan.’ ‘If you’re going to make the trip out here, it’s a good idea to get a booth with your own personal TV, that way you don’t miss any of the action.’
Another unique thing ESPN Zone offers are reclining chairs with tables on the side so guests can really feel at home while watching the game.
The menu has all of the things most sports fans have come to love:’ hot wings, ribs, steak and cheese fries.’ And the price isn’t too high as most plates cost around $10-$15.
Even when a patron of ESPN Zone has to use the bathroom, they won’t miss any of the action as there are TVs hung above each urinal.
For all the people that love to play fantasy sports, ESPN Zone is not only a great place to watch games, but also an ideal place to hold your fantasy drafts.’ Since free wireless Internet is provided in the restaurant, all that must be done to hold a draft is to fill out the restaurant’s official fantasy draft paperwork.
Like other places in L.A., the parking situation can be a little tricky. The best way to reach the restaurant is to take the Metro, which is conveniently located adjacent to ESPN Zone.
When driving, the best parking lot to use is the west garage which typically has a flat rate of $10, but can go up to as high as $25 if there is an event such as a Lakers game.
ESPN Zone gets the most crowded during big games, so make sure to check out the schedule in advance to get a better feel for how busy it will be.
