A.S. Senate Meeting Coverage

Associated Students (A.S.) resumed its weekly meeting Tuesday after the inaugural ceremony inducted student government leaders for the 2010-2011 year.

A.S. President Conor Lansdale and Vice President Neil Sanchez officially took their positions along with A.S. senators.

Melinda Hambrick, senator of Upper Division I, said she wanted to be the best representative of the upper division class.

“My goal is to channel in and represent the needs of the upper division class,” Hambrick said. “I want to add value to the student government”

Hambrick previous experience included her role as delegate for Model United Nations.

Model United Nations was a political internship and provided UN operations experience.

Hambrick said she always wanted to be involved with student government and this experience would help her with her future career plans.

“Now that I don’t have to work as much, I can focus on participating at school,” Hambrick said. “This will help me to become a Foreign Service officer eventually working in Africa.”

Former A.S. President Abel Pacheco addressed the new members during the open forum and offered well wishes.

He congratulated everyone and wished them much success for the school year.

In addition, the Senate unanimously voted on the following funding request from clubs organization: $1,000 would be allocated for California Chicano News Media for workshops and equipment, $1,150 for Delta Zeta’s Turtle Tug and $2,500 for Women’s Studies Student Association’s for Feminist Awareness Week and Women’s Herstory Month.
