Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company comes to CSUN

CSUN is welcoming the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company for a one-night performance of dazzling costumes and dance routines Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall in the University Student Union (USU).

Pamela Bock, director of marketing and strategic communications for the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC), said, “This is their most recent tour, so this has been in the works for a while.”

The dancers try to tell a story with the performances.

“The company is most recognized for their artistic interpretation of traditional folkloric Filipino cultural events,” Bock said.

Bock said that students will enjoy their “incredible costumes, incredible music and their artistic aesthetic.”

“Up until the last couple weeks before school started, most of the people buying tickets were people out in the community,” Bock said.

The VPAC is planning to have both community members and CSUN students and faculty attend the event.

“All students do get to take advantage of the student discount that’s 40 percent off,” Bock said. Students need to have a valid CSUN ID.

Bock said they have reached out to the historical Filipino town and they received a lot of enthusiasm from groups in the surrounding area.

“We’ve advertised in some local Filipino newspapers,” Bock said.

Now that school has started, more of the ticket sales are going to students and others on campus, Bock said.

She said VPAC is promoting information through the Filipino American Student Association, an on-campus organization that promotes closer unity among Filipino Americans.

Additional information is available on VPAC’s Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as at valleyperformingartscenter.org.
