Library presentation continues

With just a few weeks left in the semester, I have decided to write the remaining A.S. blogs in an informal way to move away from a rigid reporting style to a more conversational tone.

As readers, I think you deserve to have your information given to you differently on blogs from time to time. So, with that said, let’s talk about what happened at Tuesday’s A.S. meeting.

Library presentation

Pop quiz: Name at least three services provided by the Oviatt Library besides the obvious group study rooms, and computer access?

Still thinking?

I’m sure this question would stump a few, but yesterday Senate members, as well as a few CSUN students, got the opportunity to learn what services were provided by the Oviatt Library, so they are one step ahead of you.

Marianne Afifi, associate dean of the Oviatt Library and Coleen Martin, coordinator of outreach services, gave a presentation about all of the services offered to CSUN students through the library.

Martin said some of the services consist of students 24/7 access to a reference librarian and a new mobile site for handheld devices. She added through the Virtual Chat and Reference service, students could access a librarian via chat, text, email (allow up to 24 hour turnaround time) or in-person to assist with reference questions.

And for those students who rely on hand held devices, the new Oviatt Mobile site allows students to access online resources without physically coming to the library, Martin said.

Afifi added the library offers an Interlibrary Loan service, which gives students access to books not owned by the library, but offered at other libraries. Who knew? She added this service can take up to two weeks.

Now I couldn’t’ tell you about all of the services, but after reading this blog you should be able to pass the next library pop quiz.
