CSUN women’s basketball team is closing its season this week with the last two home games against UC Davis and Pacific at the Matadome.

The Matadors (4-24) are seeking a win after their two losses on the road against CSU Bakersfield 71-46 last Wednesday and UC Santa Barbara, 52-71 with Jasmine Erving and Haley White each scoring 13 points for the Matadors this past Saturday.

The Matadors are 4-10 in the Big West Conference and hold the eighth place position and hope to advance onto the conference tournament. CSUN needs a win on Thursday against UC Davis (19-8), who currently holds the fourth spot, to assure its spot. If they fall short, they have one more chance to go head-to-head against Pacific (7-21), who is holding the ninth place on Saturday for the winning spot to the Big West Tournament.

Last time the Matadors faced the Aggies, they fell short with shooting 40.8 percent from the field.

UC Davis is coming from a loss against UC Riverside 74-62.

Head coach, Jason Flowers said that these two final home games are a test to show the Matadors toughness and discipline.

“We have to improve and execute for 40 minutes,” he said.

While the Matadors host their last two games, they will be saying goodbye to their four seniors Analee Viena-Lota, Anna Simmons, Janet Alvarado, and Bianca Davies.

Forward, Viena-Lota said she plans to execute at both games, staying solid, have patience, keep her composure, and be successful. She is also very excited to play her last two home games and believes she is well prepared and ready to give it her all.

Flowers explains that each senior brings something different to the program. Although Flowers has been with this group of women for a year, he has grown with each one and done the best he could.

Flowers expects nothing different from his four seniors, but to “Play hard, put effort, keep good attitude on the floor, stay in the game behind one another, and to provide leadership for the underclassmen,” he said.
