Annual Record Store Day offers exclusive titles

Many people say vinyl has better sound than an MP3 file, which is certainly more portable but whose audio is compressed to take up less room on a hard drive. (Jill Johnson/Fort Worth Star-Telegram/MCT)

Hey, did you know?

Special vinyl, CD releases and exclusive promotional products will be up for grabs at participating record stores across the country as part of the Fourth Annual Record Store Day on Saturday, April 16.

The holiday, which is held the third Saturday of April, celebrates the art of music through independently owned record stores.

Performances, body-painting, cook-outs, parades and meet and greets with artists are just part of the nation-wide festivity.

Titles being exclusively released for Record Stores Day include “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, “Covers” by the Deftones, “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga, and “Brown Sugar” by the Rolling Stones among countless others.

According to the Record Store Day website, the original idea for the holiday originated from Chris Brown and the holiday was founded in 2007.

On April 19, 2008 Metallica officially launched Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco.

Participating record stores around CSUN are Rock Candy Music and More in Saugus and NERA in Sylmar.

So show up to your local record store and support that vinyl!
