Can Jews and Christians “break bread” together?

As the festival of Passover for the Jewish religion and Holy Week for the Christian religion approach, the age-old question emerges about whether people are tolerant of religious beliefs other than their own.

Passover begins this Monday at sundown. The seven day festival commemorates the ancient Israelites exodus from slavery out of Egypt.

Holy Week, the culmination of the season of Lent, marks the holiest time of year for the Christian religion. It begins this Sunday with Palm Sunday, and ends one week later with Easter Sunday. Holy Week commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

Both are monotheistic religions that share countless prophetic and historical similarities.

Even though a number of congregations in many American cities host interfaith Seders, can the Passover table really be shared in harmony by Christians and those of the Jewish faith?
