Matador Sports Desk: Track and Field / Tennis

Track and Field
Cal State Northridge’s senior Sherrina Lofton captured her second Big West Conference heptathlon championship in the last three years Saturday at UC Irvine as she earned 5,371 points to claim the title as the conference’s top all-around athlete.
Fellow teammate senior Desirae Gonder finished third and junior Alisa Jenkins was fifth as the Matadors attempt to win their sixth consecutive conference crown.
On the men’s side, Matador freshman Carl Horsley was named the Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season for his performance at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational last week.

Tennis
The CSUN tennis team had three players named to the All-Big West Women’s Tennis Team. All together, the Matadors attained five awards as voted by conference coaches and was the only team in the league to place two singles players on the All-Big West First Team.
Brooke Doane, the schools all-time leader in doubles wins and doubles winning percentage, earned three awards including All-Big West Singles First Team and her Third Straight All-Big West Doubles First Team honors for her play with Jennifer Sher.
Sher was the second Matador to earn All-Big West Singles First Team honors and sophomore Maria Pistalu earned All-Big west Doubles honorable mention for her play with Doane.
