Rhode Island rode the comeback train once again to sweep a two-game series from the Matadors (8-9) at Matador Field.

One day after making a late push to defeat CSUN 5-4, the Rams were back at it Wednesday afternoon, using an explosion of offense in the seventh and eighth innings to down the Matadors 10-8.

CSUN led 4-3 until the top of the seventh, where – despite being down to its last out – Rhode Island scored three runs thanks to an RBI single and a two-run double.

The Matadors scored a run in the bottom inning off a Todd Eskelin sacrifice fly to bring in Miles Williams and cut the lead to 6-5, but the Rams added four more scores in the eighth and CSUN’s offense couldn’t complete a comeback of its own.

Three CSUN errors helped Rhode Island’s offensive outburst in the eighth.

Pitcher Jursten Gorski got the start for the Matadors, but reliever Cole Hallum (0-1), who came in in the seventh inning, took the loss.

Pitcher Rob Curran (1-0) recorded the win for Rhode Island and closer Mike Bradstreet got his fourth save of the season.

The Matadors finished their five-game homestand at 2-3 and now will take to the road for a three-game series at Portland starting Friday.
