Men’s basketball junior guard Josh Greene became one of 64 students across the nation to recently receive the Academic Momentum Award from the Scholar Baller Program for excellence on and off the court.

Greene, a Recreation and Tourism Management major, is one of 350 student-athletes at CSUN. Averaging 13.3 points and 1.8 steals per game on the season, Greene continually scores high marks in class and makes continuous strides to improve his community.

As part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Greene helped raise funds to provide food and gifts to needy families during the holiday season.

“Academics and contributing to the community are very important to me,” said Greene in an interview with Northridge Athletics. “Coach (Braswell) and my mom have always stressed the value of academics. Whenever you have a chance to help people who are in need, that’s important.”

The chosen athletes, which are represented by 31 different colleges and universities, are put into three categories: Team One, Team Two and Team Three. The tiered teams are chosen based on the level of academic improvement and how it impacted the nominee and/or their peers. Greene was selected as Team Two.

“Josh is a leader in the classroom and on the court,” said head basketball coach Bobby Braswell to Northridge Athletics. “He has always been honest, thoughtful and industrious. While Josh struggled in the classroom as a freshman, he was able to finish his sophomore year with a 3.46 GPA.”

Greene will receive a recognition certificate and Scholar Baller medal that will be presented to him at an upcoming Northridge game.
