Police chief asks campus to be aware of surroundings

CSUN President Dianne Harrison and Police Chief Anne Glavin issued a statement regarding the recent shooting on the campus of MIT and the bomb threats at Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

“These incidents give us all much sadness and concern for our safety,” Harrison said.

CSUN police department chief Anne Galvin is the former Chief of Police of the MIT Police Department, which she held for 27 years.

“I would ask our CSUN community to have a high degree of awareness while on campus at this time and to report to the CSUN Police any suspicious activity or objects that might seem out of place or cause concern,” Glavin said.

She also directed the police department’s bomb sniffing dog, Isy, and her handler, Cprl. Tom Finnerty to, “provide a high visibility on campus to assure our community that we are being vigilant.”

Galvin stressed that this was only a precautionary measure and there were no imminent threats at this time. She reminded everyone to stay aware with the tagline, ‘See Something, Say Something.”

For any questions or concerns the CSUN police department can be reached at 818-677-2111.
