Student success fees, voter registration and student enrollment were some of the topics discussed at the Associated Students (AS) meeting today. Talar Alexanian, AS vice president, said representatives from the California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s Office will be on campus Monday to speak about student success fees. The fee, known at CSUN as the campus quality fee, is used to maintain currency in technology and increase student support services among other things. At CSUN, students have been paying the fee, which is currently $108 since 2008. Alexanian hopes to increase student awareness on campus about this fee. “It would be great if there is discussion to get input on the CSU level,” she said.

Alexanian also focused on enrollment when she said there are more transfer students enrolled this semester than freshman. Alexanian said the increase is due to SB 1440 which enables students who transfer from a California community college to be able to transfer to the CSU system as a junior.

She said due to impaction at other CSUs, Northridge is 11% over their target cap for the semester.

Tiffany Zaich, AS president, talked about a partnering with CaliforniaStudentVote.org to help register new voters for upcoming midterm elections. Zaich touted the ease of the website. “It takes voter registration from paper to online,” she said.

The next ASU meeting will take place Sept. 22 at the University Student Union.
