The CSUN women’s tennis team put on several stellar performances, including a doubles tournament win over the weekend as they hosted the Matador Invitational at the Matador Tennis Complex.

Sophomores Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu defeated a Montana team in the opening round, before defeating the top-seeded University of Portland team. They matched up against teammates sophomores Vivian Lin and Kiryang Kim and won 8-5 to become the doubles tournament champions.

Hsu was also fairly successful in her singles draw, scoring three-set matches wins over Seattle and UC Riverside before losing out to Portland. Poei, on the other hand, made it to the semifinals of the singles top flight draw, before losing to another Portland player.

Lin and Kim, who previously won a tournament at Long Beach State, were second seeds and beat Seattle and Montana to get to the finals.

Other doubles matches included Junior Samantha Judan and sophomore Mari Taslagyan, who also reached a doubles final after defeating UC Riverside and UC San Diego, but were beaten by Seattle. Junior Jessica Warren and senior Criss Rodriguez, and junior Leslie Chang and senior Corinne Schnyder also won games before losing in the next round.

In other singles match, Rodriguez also won a game, before losing to Hsu’s Portland opponent in the next round. Lin scored victories over Seattle and Montana, before losing to another Portland player.

Kim won the consolation side of the top singles flight after losing in the first round, but winning against Cal State Fullerton, and two opponents from Seattle. Taslagyan also won her consolation side after beating Montana, UC Riverside and Cal Poly.
