Newly university recognized clubs at CSUN include faith-based clubs, a Latina culture/academic promotion club, and a worldwide awareness to health disparities club.

According to Agustin “Augie” Garibay, Activities Coordinator, there are four new student clubs/organizations that have received University Recognition and Associated Students Chartering. Last year, at this time in the semester, there were 10 that received such certification.

A breakdown of the new clubs:

Las Reinas, Colony of Theta Lambda Psi: “Promotes the achievement of Latina women by embracing nuestra cultura and promoting academic excellence.”

3 Strands Fellowship: “Aims to be a spirit-filled, counter-cultural community of Christians who are disciples and disciple makers.”

CSUN Watsi: “Aims to raise awareness of health disparities around the world and raise funds by crowdfunding treatments that are high impact and low cost.”

Young Life College: CSUN team: “Desires to build relationships with students to establish a deeper sense of community and develop their faith.”

There are 10 new student clubs/organizations in process. This will bring the total of new clubs/organizations to 14 for the fall 2014 semester, said Garibay.

There were 18 new student clubs/organizations during the fall 2013 semester.

The first step in making a new club this semester is to go to a new club workshop where students learn about the process, responsibilities and requirements needed to gain university recognition.

Privileges university-recognized clubs have include the ability to hold meetings and functions on campus, the use of certain university services and the opportunity to have a CSUN website/email account for the organization.

One responsibility university recognized clubs need to maintain is abiding by the policies outlined by the university, including regulations involving non-discrimination and hazing.

The deadline for new club registration was Nov. 6.
