Welcome to Dinner Thyme, your friendly neighborhood food blog.

We, your humble writers, are just looking to expand your horizons.
Our goal is to expose you to something new, whether it’s a new food, recipe or restaurant.

Each week will bring a new topic to discuss. These can range from possible vegan options to the effects hipsters have on food, and even eating healthier on a tight budget.

Each post will include a recipe to follow, or even a review to cite some interest in local restaurants. Others will just provide some things to consider or helpful tips.

We want to represent all walks of life, whether someone is vegan, allergic to gluten, a lover of dessert, or just plain adventurous.

We don’t just want to tell you what’s good. We want to expose you to something new, and if you can learn something in the process, even better.

Getting hungry yet?

To get you excited for what’s to come, here’s our first recipe. It’s kind of an appetizer, if you will.

Cheddar Bacon Cheesy Bread

I’m making two kinds, because they’re very similar with only slight variations. Overall, this recipe cost about $20, depending on what sales you find or what brands you get.

Ingredients:

  • Loaf of bread (I used two French bread rolls)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Bacon bits
  • 1 stick of butter
  • Garlic salt
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Process:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Cook your bacon however you prefer.

  • Slice the bread in a crisscross pattern, but don’t cut all the way through.
  • Gently pull at the pieces to get into the cracks.
  • Melt the butter by popping it in the microwave for a few seconds.
  • Combine the butter, garlic salt, salt and pepper. How much of each spice you want is up to you and your taste buds.

  • Drizzle the mixture into the cracks of the bread. Try to be as thorough as possible.
  • Sprinkle the cheese everywhere.
  • Sprinkle the bacon on top of that.
  • Stick in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until the bread starts to get golden brown.

If bacon isn’t your thing, you can slightly tweak the recipe.

Garlic Mozzarella Cheesy Bread

The recipe is the same except you drizzle olive oil alongside the butter, switch out the cheddar for mozzarella and leave out the bacon.

In a family of six, four preferred the cheddar bacon. The two appetizers definitely have different tastes, so it all depends on what you prefer.

We’ll see you here next week for our next post.

Happy eating!
