Sand Volleyball: CSUN comes away winless at Long Beach double-header

Despite the Matadors two-game win streak, they could not overcome the No. 7 Tigers and No. 5 49ers on the road as they lost to both teams 5-0.

Against the Tigers, the No.1 team of seniors Casey Hinger and Kelcie Randazzo were defeated in three sets by Tigers Lexi Elman and Kat Schulz 22-20, 26-28, 16-14. Randazzo had 24 kills while Hinger hit .519 on 27 swings. Despite the loss, each set as forced to extra points.

The No. 2 team of senior Mahina Haina and freshman Katie Sotto lost to Megan Birch and Anne-Sophie Bauer in straight sets, 21-14 and 21-19. No. 3 sophomore Julie Haake and Nicolette Pinkney also lost in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-15 to Mia Feiner and Gillian Howard.

The No. 4 team of junior Cieana Stinson and sophomore Stephanie Serna lost 21-11 and 21-19 to Alicja Will and Kimmy Whitson. The fifth-ranked team of freshman Nada Dragovic and junior Alia Casino lost to Taylor Poncetta and Andie Casino, 21-16 and 21-15

Against the 49ers, Hinger and Randazzo lost against the No. 1 team of Delainey Aigner-Swesey of Chelsea Cabrajac in three sets, 20-22, 21-15 and 15-9.

Haina and Sato lost to the No. 2 team of Tyler Jackson and Anete Brinke 21-10 and 21-12. Haake and Pinkney lost in three sets, 14-21, 21-18, and 15-13 to the team of Bre Mackie and Jenelle Hudson.

Stinson and Serna lost 21-13, 21-7 to the No. 4 team of Andrea McHugh and Ciana Wagner. Dragovic and Casino were defeated by the No. 5. team of Rachel Nieto and Sammee Thomas, 21-17 and 21-8.

The Matadors return home Thursday, Mar. 19 to host California Sate University, Bakersfield at the Matador Sand Volleyball Facility at 2 p.m.
