Things to do at CSUN: 4/13-4/18

7:30 p.m. – Monday, Apri 13

Listen to the soothing sound of the Small Group Jazz ensemble play a concert filled with a rhythm section and arrangement of several jazz guitars. CSUN jazz students will perform at the Cypress Recital Hall. Students are $7 with a valid CSUN I.D. For more information, click here.

8:30 a.m. – Tuesday, April 14

Begin your day with a continental breakfast and learn about the medical facilities in Sierra Leone, and health challenges in Nigeria and Kenya. A welcome speech from Provost Harry Hellenbrand will follow the meal. Six keynote speakers will discuss the research challenges and infectious diseases in Africa. Attendees will hear from a team member, infectious disease specialist, nurse research facilitator and more. A buffet lunch will feature a performance from CSUN’s African dance class. The event will close with a panel of four CSUN Math Department professors discussing the health issues in Africa. The Fourth Annual African Studies Symposium is hosted by CSUN’S African Studies Interdisciplinary Minor Program. For more information click, here.

8 p.m. – Wednesday, April 15

Calling all CSUN singers and poets, now’s the time to perform that new masterpiece you’ve created! Express yourself at the Northridge Center, USU. All creative forms of expression that needs an audience are welcome. There will be free food and a raffle for the first 30 people through the door. 10 a.m. – Friday, April 17

Pride Center members will host an event that teaches students about the LGBTQ community. The goal is to motivate individuals to create a welcoming atmosphere on campus. RSVP at the Pride Center front desk or to sarina.loeb@csun.edu. The LGBTQ Awareness Training at the Thousand Oaks Room USU, will last about two hours. For more information click, here.

10 a.m. – Saturday, April 18

If you’re not available the second weekend of Coachella, here’s something that will keep you busy while your friends dance and party in the desert. Take a guided walking tour of 10 colorful and unique murals along Van Nuys Blvd. Mural mile is a stretch of painted art that covers the sides of local businesses. The tour will teach the history of and inspirations for the animators and artists behind the creations in the Northeast Valley. Tickets are $15 for those who pay in advance and $20 on Saturday. Those wishing to participate should meet outside of Myke’s Cafe, 13171 Van Nuys Blvd, Pacoima, CA 91331. For more information click, here.
