NBA 2K15, a 2015 of installment of the second best-selling basketball video game franchise, makes Steve Kerr the only current NBA participant to have dual roles in the game as an analyst and a coach.

Kerr accepted the Golden State Warriors head coaching job only months before NBA 2K15 finished game production with his voice on record. The company had no choice but to release the highly anticipated game.

The four- year commentating relationship with NBA 2K began in 2012 but Kerr’s first video game gig started in 2006 with NBA 2K’s competitor, NBA Live. Alongside NBA analyst Marv Albert, Kerr can be heard in NBA Live 06, 07, 08, 09 and the 2010 version of NBA Live.

NBA Live is currently the highest-grossing basketball video game with 35 million sells, but their fall in popularity caused them to take a three year hiatus after 2010’s release. Since their return, Kerr has been a perennial announcer for 2K’s in-game play-by-plays and player analysis.

Next year’s installment of the 2K franchise will likely be without Kerr since he inked a five- year $25 million contract before the 2014 season.

2K has yet to make a statement on who will be replacing Kerr for the 2016 issue but if the Warriors do well in the playoffs, Kerr’s sideline commentary could become a distant memory for gamers.
