Weekly Events: Summer Lives On

August 24 starts a new CSUN semester, and the grind begins again with the cycle continuing to churn out graduates and scholars. But those scholars and graduates need to have fun too! Here is a list of things to do on campus and around Los Angeles as the summer cools off and the fall welcomes a new chapter. Is the summer really over with all these cool events? No! Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of John Kirby

CSUN will exhibit 100 artworks by renown comic artist Jack Kirby, who was integral in launching the vision of the Marvel Universe. The exhibit will showcase work from his long, illustrious career.

J.A.W. Cooper, Jose Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros 

Artists J.A.W. Cooper and Jose Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros set up shop at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery showcasing their latest works. Check out Ontiveros portraying your favorite Disney characters partaking in modern vices and the elegant abstract figures Cooper has to offer in this free showcase.

21+ only: KROQ “Locals Only” presents The Bulls, LEX, Cellars, The Bad Years plus DJ Isabel J

Check out local artists perform off Silverlake Boulevard at The Satellite. Enjoy the headlining band for August, The Bulls, as it perform one of its last sets as house band. The music continues as LEX, Cellars, The Bad Years and DJ Isabel J highlight the rest of the night. This event is 21+ only.

Associated Students Faire 

Learn about the Division of Student Affairs and the Associated Students group on CSUN’s campus and what they have to offer! From volunteering services to discounted theme tickets, the Associated Students staff will be delighted to inform you while giving away free academic planners and prizes as well.

21+ only: The Satellite presents Kid Cadaver (Ep release show), Coyote, Layne 

Check out San Fernando Valley locals Kid Cadaver as they host their EP release show at The Satellite. This $8 venture to Silverlake is well worth the trip and expense, with Coyote and Layne closing out a great show. This event is 21+ only.

Come to Matafest and learn about the various resources that the University Student Union has to offer. Experience all the USU has to offer, from free food, live entertainment, and much more!
