Weekly Events: Fall back into the groove

Fall semester is back in full swing, classes have begun, coffee sales are on the rise and sleep is in decline. However, no matter what you’re doing or who you are, you need a break. Happy Anniversary Creative Media Studio!

What is it: The Creative Media Studio is turning a year older, and celebrate this anniversary, CSUN will be showcasing various works that students have made ranging from: art, music, animations, videos, a whole mess of cool stuff. Go check it out, its going to be free and awesome.

Hard Edged: Geometrical Abstraction and beyond

What is it: Geometry, we must all remember taking that in middle school, or high school. Well, it DOES have a use outside of the classroom and we’ll see how at this art show showcasing several artists with a unique idea of modernism. Focused around abstract art, this show is sure to entertain the more artisticaly-inclined.

William Kentridge: Journey to the Moon

What is it:It sounds nice to go on a journey to the moon doesn’t it? Unfortunately this isn’t that, but the name is far from arbitrary. At this museum you’ll be able to enjoy three Films by South African artist, William Kentridge.

Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of Jack Kirby

What is it: Who around here hasn’t seen or at the very least heard of The Avengers? Who doesn’t know Wolverine’s super powers? Comic books have played a huge staple in our society and still continues to. Famed comic book artist Jack Kirby, who worked on aforementioned comics is here at CSUN to exhibit some of his work as well as his career. This started on August 24 and extends to October 10th however on Thursdays this Event is open much later than normal.

Orson Welles retrospective: Citizen Kane

What is it: Orson Welles, The producer, co-writer and main star of the “greatest movie ever made” Citizen Kane. Every thursday for the next few months, CSUN will be showing one of Orson Welles movies he stared. Citizen Kane being this week is considered by many to be the greatest movie ever. Haven’t seen it? Wondering what all the fuss is about this citizen named Kane? Come check it out! It’s free!

Kate Nash Concert

What is it: If the name Kate Nash rung a bell, you know who she is and what she does, this is one of many concerts by her during her tour. Nash, being around since ’07 is still relatively new but she’s definitely gaining traction with her unique blend of indie pop/rock. If you haven’t heard of her, it’s definitely worth checking her out!

What is it: They say laughter is the best medicine, and in all honesty who doesn’t like to laugh? What is it: Toys, we’ve all played with them growing up. We all had that rich friend who had those super nice toys that we just could never afford. Who decided to come up with the idea for expensive designer toys anyway? Good question, here at this free event they’ll take us on a ride through time to learn where all these toys came from. It’ll be a full day event of demos, art toys, and a look at designer toys and their History.
