CSUN stomps the Anteaters on the road

The CSUN women’s basketball team picked up its second consecutive win with an 83-64 victory on the road over the University of California, Irvine Anteaters last night.

With the win, the Matadors improved to 4-16 on the season and 2-4 in the Big West Conference.

Leading the way for the Matadors was freshman center Channon Fluker who posted her third double-double of the season. She finished with a career-high 33 points on 68.1 percent shooting, pulled down 13 rebounds, and blocked three shots.

She was just recently named the Big West Player of the Week.

Sophomore guard Serafina Maulupe chipped in with 14 points on 70 percent shooting.

The Anteaters were led by junior guard Raelyn Cheung-Sutton who scored 16 points on 62.5 percent shooting and dished out seven assists. Sophomore guard Irene Chavez added 12 points on 33.3 percent shooting to go along with four rebounds and two assists.

The Matadors had their best offensive game of the season so far, shooting 52.4 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the three point line. They also shot 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

Defensively, CSUN held the Anteaters to 30.6 percent shooting from the field and 27.3 percent shooting from behind the arc.

The Matadors will look to extend their win streak to three games on Saturday, Jan. 30, when they face the California State University, Fullerton Titans at the Matadome.
