A Conversation with Governor Michael Dukakis

Enjoy a conversation with Michael Dukakis, who was the Governor of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1983 to 1991. The event will take place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Whitsett Room, located in Sierra Hall 451. The event is free to all CSUN students.

Serenity Yoga

Students can register for Serenity Yoga, which brings healing and balance to the body’s systems. This Hatha based yoga class targets relaxation and includes posture, breath and meditation. The event will occur from 4 to 5:10 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center Reflection Patio and is free of charge.

Black History Matters: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

The Oviatt Library, in Lab A, will have an edit-a-thon for students to gather and grown Wikipedia’s scope and content related to Black history and the African Diaspora. The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and free of cost as well.

Wednesday, Feb. 24

The Ethics of Giving Within and Outside the Jewish Community

Rabbi Kaufman, a campus and community rabbi and teacher, school principal, college administrator, social worker, and program organizer for all ages and backgrounds, will lead the event, which will cover the ethics of giving within and outside the Jewish community. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Jerome Richfield 247 and is free of cost.

“Cultivating Mindfulness” at the Oasis Wellness Center

Oasis Wellness Center will be hosting a workshop called, “Cultivating Mindfulness,” which aims to teach you meditation techniques that will help you gain a more relaxed, stress-free life. The workshop is free to all CSUN students from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Serenity/Vitality Meeting Room, located in the Oasis Wellness Center.

Art Session at the Oasis: Contemplation Painting

The Oasis Wellness Center will hold a free workshop, which uses painting to improve your stress levels, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The event is held every Wednesday, and registration begins 24 hours before the class date. Cost of the workshop is free for all students.

Thursday, Feb. 25

“Let’s Beat Test Anxiety” Workshops

Dr. Saimir Thano of University Counseling Services will lead a workshop, which teaches ways to manage and improve your anxiety when it comes to test taking. The event takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center and is free of charge for all students on campus.

The Mirror

This film, which is one hour, 47 minutes, in length, covers to story of Russia’s greatest icon painter and director, Andrei Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky takes a significant turn with this striking meditation on life in Russia during World World II. The event will open begin at 7 p.m. in the Armer Theater (MZ 100) and is free to all students.

Matador Recreation Day at the SRC

Come join your fellow classmates for Matador Recreation Day, an event where the University Student Union, Student Recreational Center, Klotz Student Health Center, University Counseling Services and various other sports club put together a fun-filled afternoon celebrating healthy living. The event, which takes place from 11 to 2 p.m. at the SRC Walkway and SRC Field, will include an obstacle course, several tables, and even a raffle, where you can win prizes like Shake Smart, iTunes and Matamoney gift cards.

Friday, Feb. 26

3rd Annual Professors, Staff and Alumni After Hours

All faculty, staff, students and alumni performers are invited to this Black History Month event that will students who we are. Join several performers, including Dr. Cedric Hackett, Dr. Aimee Glocke, and Dr. Sheba Lo, for a two-hour event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the University Student Union Northridge Center. The cost of the event is free.

Saturday, Feb. 27

Comics and Visual Culture

Dr. Amina Hassan will hold a presentation from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Oviatt Library Ferman Presentation Room, where she will talk about her recent work, Loren Miller: Civil Rights Attorney and Journalist. Judge Robin Miller Sloan will also close the presentation, and the cost of the event is free.

Saturday, Feb. 27

Get CPR, AED and First Aid Certified in One Day at the SRC

For $45 CSUN students can take classes to get certified in CPR, AED and First Aid. This opportunity will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center and required those interested to register online.
