“Only Angels Have Wings” at LACMA

Celebrate March at LACMA on Tuesday with a screen of the Howard Hawks-directed “Only Angels Have Wings,” a fatalistic drama of romance and aviation. Starring Cary Grant and Jean Arthur, “Only Angels Have Wings” was one of many cinematic relics released in 1939, forever remembered alongside “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone With The Wind.”

Plague Vendor @ The Troubadour

Stressed and depressed? Hate-mosh this Wednesday at the Troubadour with Plague Vendor. Born in a Whittier practice space, Plague Vendor keep things nice and dark and dangerous. They’re on Epitaph Records, which takes care of bands like The Garden and Joyce Manor. Get there early to catch real rockers The Bots and brother-sister duo White Mystery.

SERIAL podcast creators @ VPAC

Co-creators of the fast-selling podcast series Serial, Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder, bless us with their presence at the VPAC. Prepped for a third season, Serial is innovative in its methods of both investigative journalism and storytelling. The podcast series won a Peabody award in April 2015. Discount student tickets are available for purchase at the VPAC box office.

Los Angeles Zine Fest

Wrap up the weekend at the Los Angeles Zine Fest on Sunday. Now in its fifth year, the L.A. Zine Fest works alongside many facets of the city’s artistic community, from comic book creators to photographers, to feature diverse collections and promote a DIY ethos. The event goes on all day and features panel discussions, readings and programming.
