D.C. Society: My party made a mistake

DC+society+logo

The primary season is winding down and it seems both parties have a clear nominee. Seven months from Nov. 8, the American people will decide whether they want Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump to be their forty fifth President of the United States of America.

Many of us knew that Donald Trump would come to be the Republican nominee for President, and if you look back you can see the party was heading in that direction for some time.

Since the 2010 midterm election Republicans came with a newfound house majority to obstruct the Obama administration and ensure he would be a one-term president. Though their effort failed they continued obstructing the president. All the while accepting the tea party and right wing extremist to their cause of obstructing the president. This is what allowed for the rise of Trump.

The Republicans fight for the nomination has been a hard fought race. It started off with around 16 to 17 candidates. The field had gradually narrowed to three people by April. Trump faced a wide array of political powerhouses from governors to senators and fellow businesswoman. With his headstrong personality alone he was able to be the front runner of his party.

Now that Trump has become the presumptive nominee, it is clear the Democrats have to prepare themselves for the fight of their lives. Hillary Clinton is still the current front-runner of the Democratic party and as she moves toward the general election she still needs to keep the party support.

It’s honestly a surprise to me the Republican party has chosen a nominee before the Democrats and it will be great to see who Trump chooses for his Vice President nominee.

I am scared for the future of our nation. I would have never thought in my wildest dream a racist bigot would be considered president in my lifetime. This whole year I thought Trumps candidacy was a complete joke and he would never get the nomination. I guess I was wrong but I still believe Trump won’t win the general election.
