The Associated Students (AS) Fair welcomed back hundreds of CSUN students today with music, food and freebies outside the Matador Bookstore Complex.

Students were greeted with flyers, planners and free popsicles to help cool down in the heat while a live DJ set kept everyone upbeat and having fun.

With a photo booth, basketball hoop and soft serve ice cream trucks, students had many activities to choose from as they joined the event.

AS members organized student competitions and many booths offered giveaway prizes and plenty of information regarding their particular AS programs.

Students had the chance to create a slogan for the 2016 AS candidates at the Student Leadership booth and free lunch boxes were raffled at the Sustainability and Recycling booth.

Students also took advantage of the opportunity to learn all they could about the programs at CSUN.

First year transfer student Scott Glode was happy to see the warm welcome. He said he was drawn in by the set up of large booths and stopped by to see what it was all about.

“I’m just collecting stuff and getting information,” Glode said. “The Outdoor Adventure booth was my favorite since I’m super outdoorsy.”

The Outdoor Adventures booth proved to be very popular with many students this year as well. Coordinator Christine Upton said students typically were unaware of the club when they approached them, but that fit the whole purpose of the AS Fair.

“We’re here to tell people who we are, what we do and what we’re all about,” Upton said.

Everyone involved had a similar mindset. AS President Sevag Alexanian said that while the freebies are there to bring in students, the fair is meant to educate and inform.

“The AS Fair is really an outreach,” said Alexanian. “It gives students a chance to learn about what we have to offer.”
