The CSUN women’s basketball team (1-1) fell 76-67 to the San Diego Toreros Monday night in a home non-conference game.

In a back and forth game, CSUN held the lead heading into the second quarter by a slim margin thanks to sophomore Channon Fluker’s 12 points and five rebounds.

With the lead changing hands after every quarter, trailing by three with less than two minutes to play in the game, CSUN committed a careless turnover that resulted in a three-point play for the Toreros. This was the ultimate blow that handed the Matadors their first loss of the season.

CSUN finished with 20 turnovers that translated to 26 points for San Diego.

Junior Tessa Boagni tied a career high playing 36 minutes, recording a double-double with 11 points and setting another career high with 14 rebounds.

Freshman Lizzy Tonks continued her hot streak to begin her early career, scoring 12 points and dishing out four assists in 31 minutes of play.

Fluker was her usual self, recording her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks.

The Matadors look to rebound from their first loss of the season traveling to face the Fresno State Bulldogs this Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
