Dia de los Muertos celebration @ Self Help Graphics & Art

Celebrating the Day of the Dead with this event, Boyle Height’s Self Help Graphics & Art center hosts a Dia de los Muertos art exhibit. The event starts with a march from Mariachi Plaza to Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School. There will be food and craft vendors in addition to the festivities.

Dia de los Muertos Festival & Block Party @ 24th Street Theatre

If the previous Dia de los Muertos event didn’t grab your attention, this celebration will have folklorico and Aztec dance groups in addition to mariachis and a Latin rock band. Food, crafts and the iconic sight of altars make up the core experience of the celebration.

“Sonita” Screening @ Skirball Cultural Center

This film follows the story of a teenage Afghan refugee in Iran who aspires to be a rapper, but her family pushes for her to become a bride, as they estimate her bridewealth to be about $9,000. The film examines womanhood in Iran and Afghan societies.

Pasadena Fan Fest @ Pasadena Civic Center

Coinciding with the Breeder’s Cup weekend is this concert that celebrates the music from the 1980s with a cover band. Food trucks and drinks will be available for attendees, with two drink tickets included with each person’s entrance.

This weekend marks the arrival of the Breeder’s Cup, where people participate in some good old gambling via racehorse picks. Among the racehorses is California Chrome, who won the 2014 Kentucky Derby.
