Women’s soccer atop standings heading into conference play

The 8-1 Matador women’s soccer team begins conference play tomorrow against the UC Irvine Anteaters and then Sunday against Long Beach State.

CSUN enters the weekend with a record-breaking seven-game winning streak on the line and potential national poll recognition.

The Anteaters come into the match with a 2-7-1 record, rounding out the bottom of the standings for the Big West teams. UCI is recently coming off a win against the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels. Prior to that, the teams last win dates back to Aug. 26, when the team beat San Jose State. The Matadors are 1-1-1 all-time against UCI.

The next match will be against the 7-1-1 49ers of CSU Long Beach. The 49ers are second only to the Matadors in the Big West Conference standings.

After losing to UCLA in the teams opening game, the 49ers have gone undefeated, outscoring its opponents by a 16-3 margin. CSUN and CSULB have split the season series 3-3-1, however, the 49ers won the last meeting at Matador Field in 2003.
