From vests to platforms, spring fashion is here

Although the recent wet weather may have style reduced to a hooded sweatshirt and bomber jacket, soon the showers will turn to flowers, and spring fashions will be here.

At the Magic Fashion Show in Las Vegas this February, I was overwhelmed with the multitude of fashion styles and excited about all the new outfits I could put together for the spring season.

From pretty feminine outfits, to not-so-short shorts, there is an option for every style this spring.

Nautical

Sailor-inspired clothing is a must this season. From dresses to shoes, navy, red and white stripes with anchor designs will add a contemporary feel to your whites and denim.

One word of advice: don’t break out the sailor hat. You are going for a metropolitan look, not a Gilligan and Skipper look.

Feminine

It’s fun to be a girl this spring. Flowy silk and satin shirts and skirts wrap the body in a delicate and ladylike fashion that can only be described as “pretty.” Pair a ruffly blouse with a pantsuit to make the look less grandma and more “grand style.”

Vests

Vests have made a comeback this season, but for this spring they have become more “girls night out” than “everyday-office outfit.” Whether worn alone, for a sexy club look or over one of the aforementioned ruffle blouses, vests are hot.

Shorts

Sorry girls, but you’re going to have to put away those daisy dukes this spring, because shorts this season are longer. The new look is to have cuffs on your shorts and pair them with loose tops to soften the look.

You can also dress up the look by pairing shorts with wedge heels and a structured top, for a sassy safari look.

White

The gym is a must to pull off the all-white outfit this spring. As we know, white is very unforgiving, but you can incorporate it into your wardrobe without starving yourself by layering white accessories over black and denim. Invest in a pair of white pumps, a purse, and a chunky necklace to quickly update any outfit.

Bags and Shoes

As a self-proclaimed shoe and bag “whore,” I could not finsh a spring fashion showcase without my favorite two accessories.

In the bag department, big is back in. From soft leather satchels, to studded vinyl bags, and even straw weaved totes, bags this spring are designed to fit even the kitchen sink.

I could go on and on about shoes. This spring, wedges, platforms and open-toed flats are the best shoes to buy.

For wedges, look for earthy material shoes, like straw wedges, and cork, to lighten up any outfit.

Platforms are back, in pretty much every color and style. My personal pick for the season is wood platforms. They make a statement, and look great when paired with a fitted skirt or jeans.

Lastly, flat, open-toed shoes are in style this season. This style is a great way to have comfort and style. Go ahead, ladies, and give those kickers a rest.
