Matadors finish 17th at Classic

The CSUN women’s golf team finished in the 17th spot with a 59 over par performance at the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic held at the 72-par 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Course on Oct. 16-17.

The Matadors finished the first round of the tournament in 14th place, posting a combined team score of 313, but shot a 322 in the final round to give them a total of 635 strokes and dropped them three spots at the end of the final round.

The University of Northern Arizona finished 16th, one stroke ahead of the Matadors.

The University of Denver finished in the top spot, shooting a combined score of 582 to put them at six over par.

Two golfers tied for the top individual scores for the Matadors. Nikki Imaromna had the best individual score for CSUN, shooting a 74 in the first round and an 82 in the second round for a 12-over-par performance, placing her in an eight-way tie for 42nd place.

Among those in the eight-way tie was CSUN’s Stephanie Aston.

Jennifer Yoo tied for the 59th spot and third overall for the Matadors with a 15 over par. Yoo shot an 81 in the first round and a 78 in the second round, giving her a total score of 159.

Other golfers rounding up the Matador squad were Lucy Davies (71st place), Krystina Gillenwater (77th place) and Anna Riss (82nd place).

Davies finished two strokes behind Yoo at 17 above par. Krystina Gillenwater finished one stroke behind Davies with a total score of 162. Riss placed a 163 overall with an 83-stroke performance in the first round and an 83 in the second round.

CSUN will compete again on Oct. 23-25 in Hawaii.
