How The University Corporation works within CSUN

Just about every year The University Corporation takes on one big project in addition to all of the other programs, activities and businesses that it supports. Last year it was the renovation of the Matador Bookstore and the creation of the Arbor Grill that helped TUC gain recognition, but that is not all its is about.

The University Corporation is an organization that supports the Matador Bookstore, Faculty/Staff Housing, Campus Dining, Residential Dining and’ the University Club. The University Corporation said it’s dedicated to CSUN’s academic mission and goals.’ The corporation supports this mission by funding programs, activities and projects that encourage academic success and development.

‘We are first and foremost about giving services back to the students and to the school,’ said Acting Executive Director of the University Corporation Rick Evans. ‘ Customer service and quality service is our motivation.’

The University Corporation is self-funded organization whose proceeds go directly to the university .The University Corporation puts resources into businesses, projects and programs that will contribute to the university’s revenue. Some of the programs are: the President’s Discretionary fund/hospitality, Faculty Research Awards and Student Projects.

In addition to providing services such as these, the University Corporation employs several CSUN students with jobs in food services, book sales, administration and other positions throughout the campus. It also deals with licensing and the filming of movies and commericals that take place here at CSUN.

‘The University Corporation is a non-profit organization that oversees the dining facilities and we are one of them,’ said Sally Adelblue the manager of the Orange Grove Bistro at the University Club.

The Orange Grove Bistro, which is located behind the Matador Bookstore, is a restaurants and dining hall that can be reserved by students, faculty, and or staff for events and catering. It is also open to the public and its menu consists of a buffet, soup and salad, and a variety of other foods.

The University corporation is responsible for the bookstore’s’ new design, new products and the Freudian Sip coffee house that is now connected to the bookstore.

‘It’s fun to make an exciting project as oppose to just a new one’, said Evans.

What use to be a cafeteria style dining hall is now newly remodeled with a Panda Express, El Pollo Loco and Juice It Up. An upper deck was also added to the bookstore to provide more sitting space for the students.

‘It looks way better and the prices are good,’ said Shae Rouzan, psychology, 19, sophomore.

The University Corporation provides an annual report explaining its mission statement, food services, licensing, grants and awards, student projects and investments. The annual report and more information about the University Corporations is located in the University Corporation office on the third floor of the Sierra Center. The next project that is scheduled to take place this summer is the renovation of Geronimos diner in the student housing.
