Hit-and-run leaves woman dead

Tuesday afternoon at 5:25 p.m. a collision occurred on the 10300 block of the intersection of Devonshire St. and Lindley Ave.

A woman driving westbound on Devonshire in a white sport utility vehicle failed to stop for a red light, hitting a 20-year-old pedestrian who was walking through the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection of Lindley.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘There were multiple witnesses that called in and police arrived shortly after the incident occurred,’ said Police Officer Menesez from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

Menesez is one of three primary investigative detectives currently working on the case.

The suspect was identified as Marcia Roberts, a 42-year-old Northridge resident.

Roberts was taken into custody Tuesday night after officers found her vehicle that matched the description and license plate number given to police by witnesses from the accident.

Based on officers’ observation and surveillance, Roberts’ Jeep Cherokee was discovered abandoned near Devonshire and Reseda Boulevard, Menesez said.

Roberts is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash while driving under the influence.

Although it has not yet been confirmed, the victim, whose name has still not been released by police, is thought to be a CSUN student because of the school supplies found at the scene.

Update: The victim was identified as Johoney Lobos, a 19-year-old CSUN student according to the Daily News.
