The 16th-ranked CSUN women’s water polo team is preparing to face its toughest weekend of the year. In the Gaucho 24-team tournament in Santa Barbara this weekend, the women will face off against some stiff competition.
All but one of the nation’s top-20 teams will be competing in the tournament. Friday morning, the women start off against ninth-ranked Hawaii and follow that up with another tough match against the eighth-ranked California Golden Bears, later in the day.
Then on Saturday, the women will have two more matches against teams yet to be determined, followed by another possible match on Sunday.
The women have started off the season fairly strong, against a tough schedule going 4-2 and beating the 11th-ranked team in the nation, San Jose State, 6-4. The Matadors’ two losses were to crosstown rival and second-ranked USC and to third-ranked Stanford.
