The Opinion page is an important part of the Daily Sundial; so important, in fact, that there is a full time editor that runs it. That would be me.
But what, you may ask, is so important about the Opinion page that they would drag a barely coherent mathematics student from the well-lit confines of Jerome Richfield Hall to participate in the production of a major news daily?
The reason, dear reader, is this: Every day at this university, there are people running around, forming committees, drafting memos and generally getting in the way. Whether it is the Associated Students funding a new concert, the Faculty Senate mandating that you take a new set of G.E. classes, or Cash Services telling you that your credit card is no longer good here, your daily life as a student is affected by everything that goes on at this campus.
We at the Daily Sundial strive to cover all these events in order to bring you the most up to date information about what is happening at CSUN. But we need someone to tell us what it means to you, the students. That means going to the students themselves for opinions about campus news.
To that end, we have created multiple opportunities for you to be heard. Writing a letter to the editor is a great way to let us know what you think of our newspaper and the news contained therein. Our letter to the editor policy is printed in each issue’s Opinion section for your convenience.
A new addition to the Sundial Online (sundial.csun.edu) is the Sundial Blog. Our editors and guest contributors will be working around the clock to provide you with up-to-the-minute breaking news and opinion. Feel free to let us know what you think by posting comments to the various articles there.
You can even join our elite team of contributing writers, who’s opinion pieces appear every day in these pages. Their intelligent and informed analysis elevates the debates here on campus and provides us with a diverse set of viewpoints on a wide variety of topics. Your essays will be a welcome addition to our current roster.
As Opinion editor, I am dedicated to providing readers with the opportunity to comment on issues that you find important. Whether it’s through a letter to the editor, comments on our website or an opinionated contribution, I want to hear from you.
Unless you are from the IRS; in that case, I’m not home.
