Healthy food options are not always easy to come by. CSUN’s newest addition, Shake Smart, is shaking up CSUN’s campus by adding a healthy option of food and drinks for students on-the-go lifestyle.

Conveniently located outside of the SRC, Shake Smart is a great option for students who want to refuel after a workout or before class.

Shake Smart offers healthy shakes high in protein that substitute as a meal. Each shake has 32 grams of protein that helps stress your appetite and boost your metabolism.

The menu which includes shakes, wraps, greek yogurts, Acai bowls and oatmeal contain numerous guilt free choices. This also includes vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options to appeal to all students.

The average shake is $5 keeping this meal in a cup affordable and tasting good.

Shake Smart got it’s start in January 2011 whith Kevin Gelfand, who was a Junior at SDSU at the time. “Healthy can taste good,” Kevin said when talking about the protein shakes. He wanted to improve the ease of a healthy lifestyle for students. The company had wild success in their first year and have since expanded to six locations with CSUN’s being their newest when it opened on August 17th.

The most popular drink on the Menu is called a Perfect 10 which contains blueberry, banana, vanilla protein and peanut butter. This shake was the first one to start their business and has stayed as a customer favorite for the last four years. He also recommends the breakfast wraps which are a simple and healthy.

To promote the shakes on campus they held a free shake day last Tuesday. You may have been one of the 1,400 Students that received a free treat that is nutritious and delicious. The line wrapped around the the side of the building and nearly reached the parking lot.

Students excited others in line by sipping on the refreshing shakes.

Alejandra, an 18-year-old freshman tried the cookies and cream shake. “It tastes great, I am excited that it is here and I like its convenient location,” said Alejandra.

Fernanda, an international student from Brazil said “Vanilla is my favorite, I have tried a few others but this one is so good. I am exited that it is right outside of the gym, it’s great for after a workout.”

If you missed out on smoothie day, make sure to take advantage of their rewards app, when you spend $55 you earn $5. Shake smart is open Monday through Thursday 7am-10pm, Friday 7am-8pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-7pm.
