CSUN finishes in 16th

After three days of competition the CSUN women’s golf team was unable to produce an impressive round performance as they placed last at the Kent Youel Invitational held at the Kapolei Golf Club in Hawaii Oct. 23-25.

The Matadors posted scores of 330 in the first round, 335 in the second and 329 in the final round, giving them a total score of 994 for 16th place. Their scores were the lowest for each round. Big West opponent UC Riverside Highlanders finished just ahead of CSUN in the rankings, 15th, but well ahead of CSUN by 31 strokes.

The University of San Francisco took the top spot with a score of 905 and host University of Hawaii placed just behind them finishing with a 911 on the score card.

Big West rivals UC Irvine and Long Beach State competed in the invitational as well. UC Irvine placed third with a total score of 913 and Long Beach State (925) finished sixth.

In individual performances, Nikki Imaromna had the best performance for the Matadors, scoring 77, 81 and 84 for a total score of 242 putting her in a tie for the 62nd spot.

Jennifer Yoo and Lucy Davies finished just a few strokes behind Imaromna. Yoo finished with scores of 83, 85 and 76 for a 244 finish while Davies took scores of 80, 81 and 84 for a total of 245.

Southern Methodist University’s Lacey Jones finished in the top spot in individual competition with a three over par performance.

Hawaii was well represented in the individuals as well. Xyra Suyetsugu put up scores of 77, 72 and 73 to finish the invitational six over par.

The Matadors will have a little more than a week to recover. They will head to Cal Poly hosted Rancho Grande Cal Poly Invitational held at the Arroyo Grande Golf Club Nov. 6-7.
