Faculty and California Faculty Association representatives picketed near the Sierra Center at Cal State Northridge at noon today. The CFA has been in conflict with the California State University Board of Trustees (led by Chancellor Charles B. Reed) over salary and benefits disputes for nearly two years, and tensions increased last fall as negotiations stalled. This month, a fact-finding panel will intervene in the negotiations. Sociology professor Dave Ballard, who serves as CSUN’s CFA chapter president, said that rolling strikes will likely be experienced across the CSU system later this semester, and a more long-term strike could be considered in later semesters if the salary dispute cannot be settled between the CSU and CFA.
