Matadors take on Fullerton tonight

Alonso Tacanga February 27, 2008
The Big West Conference title could be on the line tonight as the conference-leading Matadors enter their last stretch of league-play and hit the road to pay a visit to second-place CSU Fullerton at the Titan Gym at 7:05 p.m. The Titans (18-7, 10-3 Big West) are only a half-game behind Northridge (18-7, 10-2) for the top spot in the conference.

Northridge comes up short against Rider, loses 73-72

Alonso Tacanga February 26, 2008
Northridge head coach Bobby Braswell called out "emergency" to guard Deon Tresvant midway through the second half. If the play call was a signal for him to carry the offense along with teammate Josh Jenkins, it worked, all the way down to the final second.

Matadors survive 49er rally; defeat Long Beach 82-78

Alonso Tacanga February 25, 2008
With three of Northridge's big men out of the contest for good, the Matadors needed someone to step up and stand tall in the game's waning moments. Seldom-used guard Tony Osunsanmi's 6 feet and 4 inches were tall enough. Osunsanmi made the most of his four minutes of playing time following forward Calvin Chitwood's injury and the disqualifications of conference leading-rebounder Tremaine Townsend and 6-foot-8 forward Jayme Miller, grabbing two rebounds - one of them offensive - making three free throws in the game's final minute and helping the Matadors get past pesky Long Beach State 82-78 on Wednesday night at the Walter Pyramid.

Matadors hold off Riverside’s rally

Alonso Tacanga February 19, 2008
After the storm had been weathered, Matador head coach Bobby Braswell called Riverside's 5-17 record "deceiving." Going from a seemingly easy win to a nerve-racking, grind-out victory has that effect on a coach. Guard Josh Jenkins scored 11 of his 18 points down the stretch, helping to preserve what was once a 21-point lead, and the Matadors (17-6, 9-2 Big West) held off a furious Riverside second-half rally to remain solo atop the Big West Conference after a difficult 73-61 win over the Highlanders Saturday night at the Matadome.

Townsend fuels Matadors past UC Davis, 77-57

Alonso Tacanga February 12, 2008
After two consecutive gut-wrenching conference losses, center Tremaine Townsend was poised to help the Matadors bounce back.Way to rebound and score. Townsend's career-highs of 21 points and 22 rebounds helped the Matadors repel a first-half offensive drought, make a tight game a blowout, and keep pace in the Big West Conference with a 77-57 road win over UC Davis on Saturday at the Pavilion.

Matadors defeated by Tigers 78-73

Alonso Tacanga February 9, 2008
Sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. Tigers' guard Michael Kirby came up with a loose ball and made a leaning jumper at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and Pacific escaped with an unlikely 78-73 win over the Matadors Thursday night at the Spanos Center.

Matadors seek to rebound from first conference loss

Alonso Tacanga February 7, 2008
The Matadors seek to rebound from their first home loss of the season as they hit the road for back-to-back games at Big West Conference rivals Pacific and UC Davis tonight and Saturday respectively. Both games are set for 7 p.m. tip-offs. The Matadors (15-5, 7-2 Big West) couldn't hold on to an eight-point second-half lead and fell to CSU Fullerton 80-72 last Saturday night at the Matadome.

Titans topple CSUN

Alonso Tacanga February 5, 2008
The Matadors succeeded on one of their defensive goals. They forced an outstanding three-point shooting team into missing 20 of 23 long-ball attempts. Even Big West Conference leading-scorer, Titans' guard Josh Akognon, only made one of his 10 tries. But then Akognon's teammate, the conference's fifth-best scorer Frank Robinson, drilled a last one.

Matadors escape attack by Anteaters

Alonso Tacanga February 4, 2008
The surprising Anteaters seemed to have something extra as they flushed back-to-back dunks and blocked junior guard Paul Wayne's jumper to preserve a tie just before a timeout. The Matadors were perturbed, not understanding what was taking place. Just then, a player that hadn't logged in a single minute the entire night gave some gentle, wise words of encouragement.

Deon Tresvant: “Small kid” plays big role for Matadors

Alonso Tacanga February 1, 2008
Kobe Bryant. Long Beach City college basketball coaches Gary Anderson and Barry Barnes. The Matadors salute you. To Deon Tresvant, the Matador's leading scorer, Bryant is an example to follow and an inspiration; a reason to believe he can do anything with a basketball.

Matadors seek to stay undefeated in Big West

Alonso Tacanga January 31, 2008
The Matadors seek to continue their winning ways and conference dominance as they get set to host Big West Conference foes UC Irvine and CSU Fullerton tonight and Saturday respectively. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m. tip-offs at the Matadome. Northridge (14-4, 6-0 Big West) is 7-0 at home and enters these games as the leader of the Big West, 1 ? games ahead of both Pacific (14-6, 5-2) and the Titans (12-6, 5-2).

Matadors rout LB State 100-61

Alonso Tacanga January 29, 2008
The Matadors' future opponents better hope that Northridge isn't coming off a loss when they face them. The Matadors bounced back from a disappointing road loss by picking apart defending Big West Conference champion Long Beach State 100-61 on Saturday at the Matadome.
