Ken "Shay" Schoech, a CSUN graduate, may need more than 24 hours a day to accomplish all that he has set his mind to. With his own production company, an internship program at the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival, and involvement in an organization dedicated to helping young filmmakers figure out the complications of Hollywood, Schoech definitely has a lot going on.

Sex center still trying to fix kinks in system

After more than a year under new directorship, the Center for Sex and Gender Research here at CSUN is still trying to get situated. "It's been a very slow process," said Jacob Hale, the director of the center and a professor in the philosophy department. The center's Web site is in the process of being updated to reflect the changing of the guard.

‘Convergence’ exhibition reveals Master of Fine Arts students’ work

An exhibition of works from Master of Fine Arts students in the art department went on display Thursday night in Manzanita Hall, and will be there until Nov. 6. The MFA is the art equivalent of a Ph.D. The exhibit, which is located on the second floor of Manzanita, includes metalwork, illustration, photography, video stills, and the designs for public art at the Sepulveda Metrolink station.

MySpace inspires relationship controversy

Romantic relationships are difficult. They are also precious, and possibly the most rewarding thing in life. I know my world is made a billion times brighter knowing that my honey bunny will be there when I get home. Why do people risk these wonderful relationships for stupid things? One of the latest arguments is the battle of MySpace - it's a whole new arena for jealousy and misunderstandings.

CSUN Cat People lacking in members

Animal lovers: there are cats on campus that need your help! A colony of about 75 cats calls CSUN home, and has been lucky enough to have people on campus help them out. The Cat People of CSUN is a group with big hearts but dwindling numbers. "There's not too many of us now," said Dee Stockmon, international evaluator/adviser and cat person.

CSU Board of Trustees member re-appointed

California State University Board of Trustees member Debra Farar was the first of her family to attend college, and like many here at CSUN, took her time doing so. From simple beginnings, she has risen to help govern the largest public university system in the United States.

Plaza del Sol stylish addition to CSUN

Where once there was only the noise and dust of construction, now there is a modern student center: the Plaza del Sol. "Futuristic" is how Mitch Lozada, who is majoring in information systems, describes the new USU. "The place is awesome, very open. It makes me think, 'Wow, I'm happy to be at CSUN,'" he said.

How often does a student think about the academic calendar? From a student's perspective, the academic calendar may seem to be a relatively mundane issue. Just tell students when to show up and when students can go on vacation. Recently, however, the calendar has been changing.

No one knows the exact number of STD infections at CSUN, but statistics indicate there are a lot out there. Though college students are probably aware of the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases, they continue to spread through the campus population, according to campus health officials.

Morning after pill available by year’s end

Plan B, the emergency contraception commonly known as the "morning after pill," has been granted over-the-counter status and will be available without a prescription before the end of the year. However, there's a catch to the new over-the-counter status: it's only for people age 18 and over.
