CFA strike sends wrong message to students

Darya Riyahi March 14, 2007
Walking through Sierra Hall one day, I came across a poster that said, "I don't want to strike but I will." Much happened that day that I can't recall but the sigh I uttered after my run in with that message, followed me though out the day. We've heard much about the CFA (California Faculty Association) negotiations over the past couple of years, and as much as it makes me sad that they're still struggling for pennies and dimes, it makes me sadder that the CFA has taken the place of "teacher" in my mind.

Like a bad dream after an all-nighter at a Las Vegas buffet, "Our Daily Bread," a documentary film by Austrian director Nikolaus Geyrhalter, sticks vengefully to the intestines. In the film, more accurately described as a brainstorm, Geyrhalter takes the viewer on a journey through the food industry, set somewhere in Europe.

Darya Riyahi February 21, 2007
Cannot make your minimum monthly credit card payments? Try setting spending limits, consolidating your debt, filing for bankruptcy or committing suicide. In "Maxed Out," an expose-style documentary by director and producer James D. Scurlock, the last and most drastic solution is not so far-fetched.

Fifty years at CSUN remembered

Darya Riyahi February 12, 2007
Archive photographs show students and faculty doing the Bunny Hop, a social dance created in a San Fernando high school in 1953, at one of CSUN's first social events in 1956. Pictures dated from 1957 feature a streaming line of students, pouring into the bungalow-style Brown Administration Building, trying to register.
