CSUN puts up season lows in loss to BYU

It was rough on the road for the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team, setting new season lows in shooting percentage (27.9 percent) and points (48) in its 55-48 loss to Brigham Young University at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah on Dec. 9. "BYU took away shots that we were looking for and forced us to have people taking shots in the positions that we don't normally do," head coach Staci Schultz said.

Matadors stretch home winning streak to 3

Junior Calvin Chitwood scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team to a 102-98 win over Eastern Washington at the Matadome on Dec. 3. Chitwood's performance earned him Big West Player of the Week honors on Dec. 4, his first such honor.

Matadors beat San Jose, lose to Colorado

The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team won their road opener against the San Jose State Spartans 66-63 on Nov. 17, but lost to the University of Colorado at Boulder 80-64 on Nov. 19. The Matadors made some history in San Jose at the Event Center by beating the Spartans for the first time in seven games and by winning their first road opener since 1998.

Matadors lose two Big West road matches

The Cal State Northridge women's volleyball team dropped to fourth place in the Big West Conference after losing matches to No. 16 Cal Poly (30-15, 30-20, 30-14) at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo on Nov. 10 and UC Santa Barbara (27-30, 24-30, 30-15, 30-22, 15-11) at the Thunderdome on Nov.

Women’s volleyball goes 1-1 on road trip

Matadors win two straight home games

The CSUN women's volleyball team is once again on a winning streak after sweeping Pacific (30-20, 31-29, 30-24) in a conference match on Oct. 26 and Fresno State (30-25, 30-18, 30-16) in a non-conference match on Oct. 28. The Matadors have an overall record of 14-7 and are in third place in the Big West with a conference record of 6-3.

Matadors wiped out by Waves in final game

The CSUN women's soccer team lost its final game of the 2006 season, 3-1, in a non-conference match against the Pepperdine Waves on Oct. 26 at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors ended the season with a 10-9-0 record, making it the third straight season the Matadors have reached double-digit wins.

Matadors knocked out of playoff scene

The CSUN women's soccer team was unable to secure a playoff spot after losing to UC Santa Barbara 2-0 at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara on Oct. 20 and to Cal Poly 3-1 on Oct. 22 at the Cal Poly Sports Complex in San Luis Obispo. The Matadors' record slipped to 10-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in Big West matches.

Northridge tied for first place

For the fifth time this season, the CSUN men's soccer team played to a tie, this time scoreless even after two overtime periods in their match against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Oct. 14 at UCR Soccer Stadium. It is the second time this season that the Matadors and the Highlanders have tied - their match on Sept.

Swim team hosts alumni meet

The CSUN swimming team kicked off their 2006-07 season with their annual alumni swim meet Oct. 7 at Matador Pool. CSUN alumna Renee Locarnini proved that she still has it, winning all but one of her events. Locarnini, a member of the Matador swimming team in 2000, 2001 and 2002, is still active in swimming, both as a coach and competitor for the Southern California Aquatic Masters Swim Club.

Matadors beat Irvine, fall to Long Beach

The CSUN women's soccer team started conference play with a 5-0 win against the UC Irvine Anteaters on Sept. 29 at Matador Soccer Field, but lost to the Long Beach State 49ers 3-2 on Oct. 1 at George Allen Field in Long Beach. The Matadors are now 7-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in Big West Conference play.

Matadors tie against UC Davis

The Matadors scored early on a header by Derek Hanks in the fifth minute, but had to settle for a 1-1 tie after the Cal Poly Mustangs scored in the 86th minute on Sept. 23 at the Sports Complex in San Luis Obispo. In a rare occurence this season, Northridge scored the first goal of the game.
