Northridge sweeps Bakersfield 7-0

The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team capped its regular season with a 7-0 sweep against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday at Matador Tennis Complex. ?The win improves the Matadors' record to 13-7 for the season. "It wasn't very competitive," said head coach Gary Victor.

Northridge to compete in BWC championships

The Cal State Northridge men's golf team will compete in the Big West Championships today and tomorrow at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. The Matadors, one of nine teams competing in the tournament, will play 36 holes of golf today and 18 holes tomorrow.

Matadors drop two tough MPSF games

The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team faced two of the top teams in the nation last weekend and came away with two more losses. The Matadors were defeated 12-5 by No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday and lost to No. 5 San Diego State 15-8 on Sunday. CSUN, ranked 15th in the nation, was unable to pull off the upset against the Sun Devils at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Arizona.

Matadors hosting Stanford Saturday

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team will open up MPSF Tournament play with a quarterfinal match against the Stanford Cardinal at the Matadome on Saturday at 7 p.m. Northridge is ranked fourth in the nation and is seeded third in the tournament.

Northridge finishes regular season, takes second at Spring Invitational

The Cal State Northridge women's golf team wrapped up the regular portion of its 2008 Spring Season last week with a second place finish at the 2008 Matador Spring Invitational at Tierra Rajeda Golf Club. The Matadors carded a 314 on Monday and followed it with a 300 on the second day of the tournament to finish just four strokes behind the tournament winner, Cal Poly.

Matadors come up short

The Cal State Northridge baseball team fell short against UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday afternoon, losing 6-5 in a non-conference game at Matador Field. The Matadors got off to a rough start, falling behind in the first inning 2-0, with the Gauchos expanding their lead to 5-0 in the fourth.

Matadors take one of three from 49ers

The Cal State Northridge softball team had mixed results over the weekend in its series against Long Beach, the 14th-ranked team in the nation. The Matadors dropped the first game of a Saturday doubleheader 1-0, then came back swinging in the nightcap for a 9-1 rout.

Boxing wins two at SJSU

The CSUN boxing team has been training for six days a week since the beginning of the semester in the hopes of getting a bout that lasts just eight minutes: three two minute rounds of fighting with one minute of rest between rounds. Three members of CSUN's boxing team got their opportunity at San Jose State University's Spartan Fight Night on March 15.

Northridge drops two matches

The CSUN women's water polo team, ranked 15th in the nation, ran into some rough water at Matador Pool over the weekend, losing to Stanford 13-4 and San Jose State 14-6. Playing without one of their key players, Chelsea Curran, who was out with a concussion, the Matadors couldn't match the offensive power of second-ranked Stanford or ninth-ranked San Jose State.

Johnson breaks decathlon record

Senior Justin Johnson had a goal for his first outdoor meet of 2008: to break the Cal State Northridge decathlon record. He achieved that goal on Thursday. Johnson scored 7,473 at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas, breaking the 26-year-old Northridge record set by Ken Terry in 1982.

CSUN sunk by Irvine

The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team lost to eighth-ranked UC Irvine 7-5 at the Anteater Aquatics Complex on Wednesday night. The loss dropped the 15th-ranked Matadors to 10-13 overall and 1-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UC Irvine improved tos 13-7 overall and 4-4 in MPSF play.
