Cole wins championship to cap 1st indoor season

As most CSUN students were hurrying to get started on their spring break, freshman Reindell Cole was sprinting down the runway at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. and launching himself into the fifth-best long jump in the world and the national championship.

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team will return to action tomorrow, looking to make it 12 straight wins, when it takes on the University of Hawai'i Warriors at the Matadome at 7 p.m. The Matadors, took a break after beating the Pepperdine Waves 30-26, 28-30, 30-25, 26-30, 15-11 on March 12 at the Matadome.

Season ends quietly on the road

While the men's team was celebrating a successful 2008 season, the women's team ended its season quietly in San Luis Obispo, with a 71-55 loss to Cal Poly on Saturday. In stark contrast to the men, who are conference co-champions, the CSUN women did not win a single conference game, resulting in a last place finish in the Big West and a seat in the stands while the Big West tournament goes on without them this week.

The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team became the 42nd straight victim at the McDonald's Swim Stadium at USC. The Matadors, ranked 14th in the nation, lost to the No. 4 Trojans 12-4 on Saturday. CSUN is now 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the MPSF conference.

The Cal State Northridge women's softball team played two double-headers over the weekend, splitting results against St. Johns on Saturday and Saint Mary's on Sunday. The Matadors beat St. John's 4-0 in Saturday's first game and lost the second 5-0. On Sunday, Northridge lost the first game to Saint Mary's 3-2, then came back to win the second 8-0.
