‘Shew’ makes a difference

Originally Published February 19, 2007 For the second time in just four days, senior center Thomas Shewmake set a new career high in points, scoring 25 to lead the CSUN men's basketball team to an important 91-74 non-conference win over the UC Davis Aggies on Feb. 14 at the Matadome. Track team wins conference title

The CSUN track and field team celebrated a double-victory on Saturday after capturing both the men's and women's titles as the 2007 Big West Conference Champions at the Matador Track and Field Complex. It is the second straight title for the CSUN women's team and the third title since 2004 for the men's team.

Senior pitcher Bobby Pascal awarded scholarship

Senior CSUN pitcher Bobby Pascal was awarded the 2007 Mike Frick Memorial Scholarship on Thursday in a ceremony at Matador Field prior to the game against UC Riverside. The scholarship is awarded annually to a CSUN baseball player in memory of the former Matador pitcher, who was killed in a automobile accident in 2003.

Grand slam by Kasarjian not enough to get win

Senior designated hitter Kris Kasarjian hit a grand slam in the CSUN baseball team's eight-run sixth inning, but No. 17 UC Riverside scored 12 runs over the last three innings to win 18-10 at Matador Field on Thursday. Kasarjian led the Matador offense with two hits and four RBI, including the first Matador grand slam of the season.

Matadors have solid performances at conference championships

The CSUN track and field team earned its first points of the 2007 Big West Championships during the multi-events portion of the competition at the Matador Track and Field Complex over the weekend. Freshman Robert Robinson took second place in the decathlon with 6,656 points and freshman Owen Morse took sixth with 6,146 points.

The men and women of the CSUN track and field team have posted many fine performances this season and lead the Big West in several events. This outdoor season has also produced two new school records by the women's team, one on the track by senior Deanna Goodwin in the 400-meter dash and the other in the pole vault by junior Krystal Quinn.

Matadors get biggest win of season

The CSUN women's water polo team saved their best for last, closing out season play by upsetting the No. 13 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 6-5 on Saturday. The Matadors also beat CSU Monterey Bay 14-5 later in the day in the mini-tournament hosted by Santa Barbara at the Campus Pool.

Matadors tough it out against Pacific

It didn't look good for the CSUN women's tennis team when Junior Ana Matijasevic fell to the court in pain during her singles match at the Northridge Tennis Complex on Sunday. The Matadors needed Matijasevic to win her match against University of the Pacific's Carla Tamborini in order to get the overall win, but Matijasevic was already down a set and 4-1 in the second set when her ankle turned and her calf pulled, sending her to the court surface.
