Asbestos still embedded in 21 buildings on CSUN campus

A California State University, Northridge English teacher assistant shares a Santa Susana room with five other faculty members. Not too long ago Cynthia Glucksman received a notification through e-mail that the room had asbestos in its tile floor. But she and her office-mates are not the only ones to receive a notice of this sort.

Pop rock without a soundtrack

Beat boxing, altos, sopranos, tenor and bass, along with dance moves, grasp students' attention, as harmonizing body movements weave themselves into a musical medley. Every Friday afternoon, a group of CSUN students step out into the lawn next to Sierra Tower and create music with their vocals without the aid of instruments.

Office of Equity and Diversity works to end classroom discrimination, harassment

There is an office on campus dedicated to mediating issues that come up between students and professors, specifically forms of discrimination and harassment. The Office of Equity and Diversity handles issues that are not limited to race, color or national origin.

CSUN names director for Valley Performing Arts Center

By the time he was a teen, Ralph Hoskins knew he had a passion for the arts, and he has now been appointed executive director for CSUN's soon-to-be-built regional performing arts center. As Hoskins watched "Citizen Kane," listened to Elvis Costello, and appreciated the works of Orson Welles, he knew early on that he wanted to work with the arts.

National Center on Deafness receives $5 million grant from U.S. Department of Education

Few other groups compare with CSUN's National Center on Deafness when it comes to competing for federal grants for the deaf and hard of hearing. NCOD has received a $10 million grant for the past 10 years, providing $1 million each year. The grant is given to provide assistance to improve the education and assistance for the deaf and hard of hearing, and to better academic accomplishments.
